Lineage Societies of Summit County
The Summit County Chapter has two lineage societies: First Settlers of Summit County, Ohio and Civil War Families of Summit County, Ohio.
All lineage society applications must be accompanied by proof of descent and the payment of a non-refundable application fee. Applications are reviewed and approved by the lineage society chair or committee. First Settlers of Summit County, Ohio
The requirements for eligibility to the First Settlers of Summit County, Ohio are:
Anyone who is a direct descendent of an individual who settled in the area now encompassed by the County of Summit in 1850 or before may become a member of "First Settlers of Summit County, Ohio". Induction of new members is held at the November banquet.
Civil War Families of Summit County, Ohio
The requirements for eligibility to the Civil War Families of Summit County, Ohio are:
Anyone who is a direct descendent or has a collateral relative who served in the Civil War for the Union, Confederacy, "Squirrel Hunters", spies or nurses. This ancestor or relative, male or female, must have lived, died or served in Summit County, Ohio. The dates of service must be between 12 April 1862 and 18 April 1865. Induction of new members is held at the November banquet.
