Akron-Summit County Public Library - Special Collections

Special Collections has an obituary index to the Akron Beacon Journal from 1937-present, available on their web site.

The Akron Beacon Journal Series housed in Special Collections dates from December 1840 to the present.  It is available on microfilm for most of that time and is available electronically from 1984 to the present through a subscription to NewsBank’s America’s Newspapers database. This database can be accessed from any library in the ASCPL system (or from any other library that subscribes to America’s Newspapers).

Special Collections also has a subject index to the Akron Beacon Journal for the years 1841-1939, available in microfilm and print.

Obituaries with an Akron Connection
 
These obituaries, all with an Akron connection, were published in  the Los Angeles Times and the Orange County Register in California  and the St. Petersburg (FL) Times. The California obits were provided by Mrs. Eleanor Evans Borkenhagen of Huntington Beach, CA, and the St. Petersburg  obits by Diana Skaggs of New Port Richey, FL.

The Barberton Public Library has obituary indexes to Barberton newspapers online.  Check the Local History Room page for available newspapers. 
 
 
The Cleveland Necrology File was produced from a microfilmed copy of an alphabetical card file containing local cemetery records and newspaper death notices.  The database includes paid death notices from various Cleveland newspapers from 1833-1975 (not all years covered). 
 

Stark County District Library at Canton has several searchable indexes online for obituaries from various Stark County newspapers for 1815 to the present.  Not all years for all papers are included.  The information lists the name, date of the newspaper and page and location.
